Brief About Dr. Julius Punnen

Dr. Julius Punnen is a highly experienced pediatric cardiac surgeon based in Bangalore, India. With over three decades of expertise, he specializes in adult cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, coronary artery bypass grafting, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, and heart valve tissue banking.

Dr. Punnen is a distinguished member of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS) and the Asia Pacific Association of Surgical Tissue Banks (APASTB). He was honored with the Dr. MRS Menon Gold Medal for being the Best outgoing student in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in 1996.

In 1999, he founded the first Homograft Heart Valve Bank in Karnataka at the Manipal Heart Foundation. His special interests include adult cardiac surgery, lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, and heart valve tissue banking.
