Dr. Surendran R is a highly esteemed Surgical Gastroenterologist with over 23 years of dedicated experience. He has made significant contributions to the field, including pioneering the successful liver transplant program in the government sector in India. Additionally, he established the Cadaver Maintenance Programme, the first of its kind worldwide. Dr. Surendran R has received numerous accolades for his exceptional work, including being recognized as the Best Doctor by the Tamil Nadu Government in 2002 and receiving a special mention award in 2010.
He was also honored with a D. Sc (Hon) degree from Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. University. He is an active member of various prestigious medical associations, such as the Association of Surgeons of India, Tamil Nadu Medical Council, and the Asian Surgical Leaders Forum. Furthermore, he is affiliated with the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Indian Society of Oncology, Association of Colorectal Surgeons of India, Indian Association of SGE, Indian Chapter of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Society, and International Gastro-Surgical Club. Dr. Surendran R has contributed to the medical community through his research papers, presentations, and participation in workshops, conferences, and CMEs.
He completed his MBBS from Madras University, Chennai, India in 1991, MS – General Surgery from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University (TNMGRMU) in 1995, and MCh – Surgical Gastroenterology/G.I. Surgery from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University (TNMGRMU) in 1990. His special interests lie in Hepatobiliary Disorders, Pancreatic Diseases, Disorders of the Esophagus, Stoma Care, and Fistula Treatment.
