Brief About Dr. Lau Peng Choong
Dr. Lau Peng Choong is a highly experienced Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Surgeon based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Choong is recognized for his expertise in bariatric and upper GI surgeries. He is actively involved in various surgical societies in Malaysia, including the Malaysian Upper Gastrointestinal Surgical Society (MUGIS) and the Malaysian Metabolic and Bariatric Surgical Society (MyMBS).
Dr. Choong is also a key member of the National Upper GI Surgery Subspecialty Training Committee Board, overseeing the training of upper GI surgeons in the country. His qualifications include an MD from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2001 and a Master’s in surgery from the University of Malaya in 2009.
Dr. Choong’s special interests lie in laparoscopic and bariatric surgeries, as well as the treatment of GI cancers, gastric ulcers, achalasia, and hernias. He has introduced innovative techniques such as Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy for achalasia and fluorescent surgery for gall bladder and cancer surgeries in Malaysia.
