Brief About Prof. D. Kannan
Prof. D. Kannan is a highly experienced Medical Gastroenterologist and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgeon based in Chennai, India. With over 40 years of expertise in the field, he is renowned for his exceptional skills in treating various conditions such as abdominal pain, peptic/gastric ulcer, acute pancreatitis, appendicitis, and ulcerative colitis.
Prof. D. Kannan’s areas of interest include endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, bariatric surgery, and GI cancer surgeries. He has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the medical field, receiving the prestigious “Best Doctor Award” from the Times Group in the Stalwarts category in 2018, as well as recognition from the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2015.
In addition to his accolades, Prof. D. Kannan holds an honorary FRCS from Glasgow University, where he later joined as a teaching faculty. He has successfully performed over 2000 hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgeries and has published 20 papers in international journals.
Prof. D. Kannan is an esteemed member of various medical associations, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Tamil Nadu Chapter of Indian Society of Gastroenterology, and Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI).
He completed his MBBS and MS (General Surgery) from Madras Medical College, Chennai, in 1982 and 1986, respectively. Prof. D. Kannan’s special interests lie in the treatment of abdominal pain, peptic/gastric ulcers, acute pancreatitis, jaundice, appendicitis, gallbladder (biliary) stones, ulcerative colitis, as well as performing endoscopy and laparoscopic surgery.
