Dr. S. Padmavati, a renowned Cardiologist in India, established the National Heart Institute in 1981. This institute, located in New Delhi, holds the distinction of being the first heart institute in India. Its inauguration was graced by the late Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, and it has since gained accreditation from NABH and NABL.

Since 1983, it has been recognized as a Collaborative Centre of WHO in Preventive Cardiology. With core specialties in Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Internal Medicine, and allied fields like Diabetology, Pulmonology, Nephrology, Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery, Oncology, Orthopaedic & Joint Replacement Surgery, the National Heart Institute caters to a diverse range of medical needs.
Moreover, it holds recognition from the National Board for post-doctoral training in cardiology and cardiovascular & thoracic surgery. Additionally, it proudly affiliates with the World Hypertension League and Heart Beat International.
