A major milestone was achieved in India by treating severe mitral regurgitation through the Mitral Clip device, MyClip, in Kauvery Hospital, Chennai.
For the past three years, a 58-year-old woman has been dealing with severe kidney disease, liver problems, and severe heart conditions (mitral regurgitation). These lead to severe breathlessness, swollen feet, and many other symptoms that make her daily activities difficult.
Mitral regurgitation is a heart valve condition in which blood leaks backward into the heart, causing a severe heart problem and eventually leading to failure. Due to her age, the traditional treatment options, such as open-heart surgery or heart transplant, are not considered a safe option.
MyClip, a mitral clip device, is known as the miracle device. It’s India’s first home-grown product by Meril, an Indian Medical Technology company. Earlier, the device was imported from abroad, which is quite expensive for an Indian patient.
During her surgery, the cardiologist and team performed a minimally invasive MyClip Procedure. Instead of open-heart surgery, the device was placed via a small tube through a blood vessel. After the device was implanted, her symptoms improved significantly. Now, she can manage her daily activities properly.
This achievement marks a proud milestone for India’s indigenous medical technology. It showcases the nation’s growing strength in delivering world-class, affordable cardiac care to patients at home.
