Dr. Akhil Mishra is currently employed at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in New Delhi as a Sr. Consultant in Nephrology. His Holiness the Dalai Lama honored him in 2013 for his dedication to the field of kidney transplantation.
In 1995, Apollo Hospital established a department of nephrology and transplantation. In the Army and Apollo Hospital in Delhi, he began the first kidney transplant. On January 23, 2015, the Indian Society of Nephrology (North Zone) honored him with the Life Time Achievement Award in Nephrology for his significant contributions to the field.
