Dr. Ömer Faruk Yilmaz, an ophthalmologist based in Istanbul, Turkey, has an impressive career spanning over 40 years in the field. With extensive experience, he specializes in various eye conditions and surgeries, including cataract, glaucoma, refractive, and retina surgery. Dr. Yilmaz obtained his medical degree from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1973, and later completed his ophthalmology specialization at Hacettepe University Medical Faculty Hospital in 1977. From 1978 to 1984, he served as Assistant Chief at the Dusseldorf University Duisburg Academic Hospital, working alongside Prof. Holland and performing 6,000 eye procedures. Upon returning to Turkey, Dr. Yilmaz introduced several groundbreaking surgeries, some of which were performed for the first time in the country and even the world. In recognition of his expertise, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 1983 and then to Professor in 1995. Throughout his career, Dr. Yilmaz has successfully completed nearly 30,000 operations. In 1996, he established Dünya Eye Hospital, the first eye hospital in Turkey. Two years later, he was appointed as the Chief Physician and Eye Clinic Chief at the Ministry of Health’s Beyolu Eye Training and Research Hospital. Even after retiring from this position, Dr. Yilmaz continues to provide care to patients in his private practice. It is worth noting that he is fluent in English and has a special interest in cataract, glaucoma, refractive surgery, and retina surgery.
