Brief About Dr. Yalakanti Raghavendra Babu
Dr. Yalakanti Raghavendra Babu is a distinguished Liver Transplant Surgeon in Hyderabad, India, with more than 13 years of experience. He has successfully completed over 600 living donor liver transplants, approximately 200 deceased donor liver transplants, and more than 400 liver resection procedures for liver cancers and tumors.
Dr. Babu has been actively involved in various adult and pediatric living donor liver transplantations, consistently achieving excellent outcomes. His research in liver transplantation, particularly in living donor volumetrics and fat estimation, has been groundbreaking. Dr. Babu has also contributed significantly to the field through innovative functional liver imaging and volume estimations before complex liver surgeries. His work has been published in prestigious medical journals such as Annals of Surgery, Clinical Transplant, Journal of Paediatric Surgery, and Transplant Proceedings.
Dr. Babu completed his MBBS in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, followed by MS in General Surgery at PGIMER, Chandigarh. He further specialized in Senior Residency (GI Surgery) at SGPGIMS, Lucknow, and MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology at PGIMER, Chandigarh. A member of ILTS, IAP, IASG, and LTSI, Dr. Babu has received several awards, including the Best Oral Paper Award in 2010 (IASG), Young Investigator Award in 2011 (IAP), and Best Oral Paper Award in 2017 (MCLD). His areas of special interest include post living donor hepatectomy liver regeneration, dysfunction and primary non-function of the graft after liver transplantation, functional liver imaging, liver donor fat estimation, hepatocellular carcinoma, low GRWR in LDL, stem cells and liver regeneration, and hepatocyte transplantation. Dr. Babu has also presented internationally and served as invited faculty at national scientific meetings and various institutions.
