Testimonial: Cardiac Treatment of Aviel Ayamba From Uganda
First and foremost, it is amazing to walk into the Fortis hospital and feel the happiness and staff’s comfort! Thank you Medsurge India team!
“My son has Down Syndrome; thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long!” Maureen Muhumuza (Mother) mentioned”.
On the day 12 February 2022, in Uganda, there are hardly words to describe how our family feels about little Aviel’s condition. We were in the hospital, just hours after our first child was born. The doctor came into my room to tell me that he had a congenital heart defect and needed to be transferred to a bigger hospital for surgery as soon as possible.
Down syndrome symptoms such as a flattened face, short neck, small ears, and tiny spots on the iris of the eye are visible from the moment he was born. Aviel used to cry all day and night; there was nothing that could make him relax and sleep.
We were absolutely petrified that surgery on a 6-month-old child would be possible. Will he recover from the incisions? In order to get the surgery done, we started searching for a Pediatric Cardiologist on the internet.
My aunt suggested to contact the Medsurge India Team. That night, my husband and I researched them on the internet and raised a query for little Aviel. They responded quickly and thoroughly discussed the situation. They set up a video consultation with Dr. Manvinder Singh Sachdev (Director and Head of the Pediatric Cardiology Department) at Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurgaon. He went over each symptom in detail and advised us to travel to India right away. On the day we arrived, a MedsurgeIndia team member met us at the airport and drove us directly to the hospital.
The doctor and his team reviewed the reports before beginning the initial testing of little Aviel. Baby did not stop crying for a single second, and the medical staff was so supportive that they made us feel at ease with our small kid.
The surgery began in the morning and lasted approximately 3-4 hours. We were sitting outside, praying for the child. The moment doctor came out and told us that the surgery went successfully and little Aviel is fine, we were overwhelmed hearing that the initial step gone well. He was in the ICU for 3-4 days before being moved to a regular room. We never heard Aviel cry again after the surgery, and he even began responding to our actions.
We were in India for nearly a month for routine check-ups and follow-ups. We experienced good changes in Aviel everyday and he also started responding to our action.
Mr. Dushyant Magu, founder of MedsurgeIndia mentioned that “ The family traveled to India from Uganda with high hopes and expectations, both financially and medically. I am delighted to returned little Aviel to the family in good health.”
