Uganda is actively working to improve access to quality healthcare for its population, despite existing challenges. While there are challenges particularly in rural areas, continuous efforts are underway to expand medical facilities and enhance healthcare infrastructure. But, specialized care for complex conditions is very limited. As a result, international medical camps play a vital role in overcoming healthcare challenges for better outcomes.
In response to this need, on April 14th and 15th, 2025, Medsurge India, conducted a medical camp in Merita Health, Bugolobi, Uganda with India’s renowned Zynova Shalby Hospital. This collective initiative marked a significant step towards bridging healthcare gaps and providing high-quality medical care in the East African nation.
With a mission of improving global health outcomes, the camp was marked by the presence of India’s two renowned medical professionals Dr. Naresh Biyani (Pediatric Neurosurgeon) and Dr. Asif Shaikh (Cardiothoracic Surgeon).
During the two days camp, more than 50 patients received satisfactory consultations from the specialists.
Expertise Meets Compassionate Care
Dr. Naresh Biyani, a well-known Pediatric Neurosurgeon brought his expertise to the medical camp. His presence was helpful in diagnosing and advising treatment for children as well as for adults. Patients get consultations for complex neurological conditions such as spinal bifida, hydrocephalus, brain tumors, epilepsy, etc. His compassionate approach was deeply appreciated by those who had never accessed neurosurgical consultations before.
Dr. Asif Shaikh, an eminent Cardiothoracic Surgeon attended patients suffering from congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, valve disorders, chest pain, breathing difficulties, etc. His presence brought advanced heart care to a region with limited access to healthcare, offering hope and support to those in need.

The camp allowed the individuals to consult with leading Indian specialists and helped them understand the right course of care. During the camp, the Medsurge team ensured smooth coordination to make the process patient friendly and efficient.
Some complex cases were identified for advanced care in India, with Medsurge offering complete facilitation for patients needing extended treatment.
